A is for Africa
I had a self assigned project to go to Africa to pursue a photojournalist approach to my photography. Africa is a difficult but an amazing place! I was fortunate to work with Marie Stopes one of the many great MGO's helping Sierra Leone out after a bitter civil war. During the brief trip I managed to go to a Amputee camp a working diamond mine and expand on my Sunday Best project.
East Meet West
As super powers battle for supremacy it is now interesting to see the similarities between the west and east are very apparent. It is a difficult mix my trips to Asia have tried to question and examine this change.
Dancers
I Followed Amateur dance competitions as I have always been fascinated by the Art form what attracted me to the project are the traditions the passion and the extremes dancers go to. Wow do they like to dress up? I found it fascinating examining the femininity and masculinity of male dancers.
Thinking of England
From the vantage point of an ex-pat looking in on the nature of English nationality I have made a series of portraits. Ranging from photographs of members of St. John's Ambulance service, Chelsea Pensioners and the Handle Bar Club It shows the traditions and eccentricities of English Society.
Fabulous
Sometimes I get the brief opportunity to meet some celebrity people often the "Fabulous" can be a hit or miss
The Fabs or Favs would be Hef, 50 Cents, Pres Bush and Studs Terkel.
Sunday Best
I revisited a project in working looking for God and Sunday Best rose up. It is an enjoyable mix between street fashion and portraiture.
America on Parades
For the past ten years I have been documenting parades as an exemplar of the American experience. They reveal how America functions, its values, its strengths, it weaknesses and contradictions but above all its love of glamour and spectacle, which underpins its culture.
Street In and Out
I feel a bit naked if I don't have my camera on me these images are from random encounters where the streets or interiors are used as a visual backdrop.
Miss Senior
The Seniors of America now have a permanent home in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Not being cool enough for Ms America the senior girls take the stage. I have followed the seniors for a couple of years and it is a jammed pack spectacle of Glamour and good old-fashioned fun. The judging is consisted of an interview, then personality and conversational skills, an evening gown (No swimsuit contest yet!) With the finally being a talent contest, by far the most entertaining portion of the spectacle.
